Whiskey and Other Spirits Sold on Cards in a French Supermarket

Whisky Hanging from Cards: What’s That All About?

Dear Travel Diary

I went to the supermarket today and saw something I’ve never seen before. A stand of glass hip flasks full of whisky being sold attached to cards. I don’t know if packaging spirits in this way is a new idea or something unique to France, but I don’t remember seeing cards of whiskey elsewhere.

The cards help make the spirits in the flasks a little more eye-catching. Having said that, I must have walked past the stand a dozen times or more without noticing it. I go to the supermarket nearly every day but tend to concentrate on finding the things on my list. Even the supermarket snails managed to stay invisible to me for over a week.

One of the best things about living a nomadic lifestyle is you are constantly exposed to new systems and ideas. It makes you question some of the things you’ve previously seen as being normal and helps you think outside the box.

I may never know why someone came up with the idea of sticking whiskey and other spirits on cards and hanging them up instead of putting them on a shelf, but it may be a good way to save space. It also occurs to me that, when such thin bottles are on a shelf they may be easy to knock over and break, so putting flasks of spirits on cards and hanging them up seems like a good idea.
